Finance Minister Bans Free Non-essential Conference Trips by Staff

The Minister for Finance, Cassiel Ato Forson, has announced reforms in the attendance of international conferences by his staff.
He has instituted a ban on what he calls free non-essential conference trips by workers at the Ministry.
This, he said, is part of decisive action by the government to curb unnecessary expenditures across government.
“Leading by example, I have made it clear to my staff that the era of free, non-essential conference travel is over. Going forward, delegation sizes will be cut—three officials will now be expected to accomplish the work of ten.”
According to him, this will be done such that it will not compromise productivity while efficiency is upheld.
This is in addition to the budget cuts, including within the Office of the President, he said and reflects the government’s commitment to prudent resource management.
Also, he said it is to “ensure that every cedi is spent where it matters most on projects that drive growth and improve the lives of Ghanaians.”
This assurance was given during an engagement with the World Bank Division Director Robert Taliercio O’Brien and his team.
