Fatawu Dauda Praises Benjamin Asare for Discipline and Consistent Performance

Former Black Stars goalkeeper Fatawu Dauda has heaped praise on Hearts of Oak captain Benjamin Asare, crediting his high level of discipline and consistent performances for taking him to the top of Ghanaian football.
The 33-year-old shot-stopper has not looked back since earning his first Black Stars call-up in March 2025, quickly establishing himself as the undisputed first-choice goalkeeper
Despite initial doubts from sections of the Ghanaian football faithful about his ability to hold down the number one spot at national level, Asare silenced critics with a five-star display in the recent Super Clash against Asante Kotoko, earning him widespread admiration for his heroics.
Speaking on 3Sports, the Black Stars goalkeeper’s coach described Asare as a very disciplined individual and a fast learner who has truly elevated his game to another level since breaking into the senior national team setup.
Fatawu Dauda highlighted how Asare’s professionalism and work ethic have made him a standout performer, not just for the Phobians in the Ghana Premier League but also on the international stage where he continues to impress.
“He’s doing well for himself and for his club. Being a captain, a leader, and then a commander, you know, it’s not easy. For that position, definitely, you know, you need to be criticised if things are not going well.
“That’s how it should be. But for now, I think he’s staying focused because it’s someone who will listen. He talked to me, listening. So he’s a fast learner; he’s coachable. So I’m happy for him. He’s doing well for his club and for himself.”
The Hearts of Oak skipper is once again expected to be named in Otto Addo’s squad for the upcoming international friendlies against Austria and Germany in the March window, as the Black Stars ramp up preparations ahead of the 2026 World Cup campaign.
