Ewurabena Aubynn Duly Sworn In

Ewurabena Aubynn has been duly sworn in as Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North by the Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin.

Her induction into the House follows a rerun of the parliamentary elections in the constituency in 19 polling stations.

The rerun was necessitated by the Electoral Commission’s annulment of the original December 2024 results, citing concerns over electoral irregularities and the submission of unauthenticated pink sheets.

The Commission’s decision was informed by reports of discrepancies in figures, unsigned result sheets, and breaches in the collation process, prompting the need for a fresh and transparent vote to uphold electoral integrity.

Hon. Aubynn, representing the National Democratic Congress (NDC), now assumes her seat as the duly elected representative of the people of Ablekuma North.

Her inclusion gives the NDC a two-thirds majority in the house.

The governing party now holds a numerical strength of 184, the majority required to make decisions

The number also surpasses the threshold to form a quorum to transact business.

At the swearing in event, Speaker Bagbin, urged the Majority Caucus to exercise tolerance and maturity in their parliamentary conduct, despite holding a two-thirds majority in the House. He emphasized that the voice of the Minority must always be respected and heard in the interest of national unity and democratic growth.

Rt. Hon. Bagbin reminded the House that the strength of Parliament lies in its diversity and called on all Members to promote decorum in their engagements.

He encouraged MPs to avoid political hostility and work together to build a more respectful and collaborative legislative environment.
