Every SHS Will Own a Farm- Agric Minister-Designate

The Minister-designate for Food and Agriculture, Hon Eric Opoku, has announced plans to make the cultivation of farms a requirement of all senior High Schools (SHS) across the country.

At his vetting on January 20, he indicated that this was envisioned to sustain students’ feeding in schools.

“We are also going to encourage institutional farming. Every secondary school in this country will be required to own a farm.”

This, he said, will be done with the assistance of recruited labourers through a collaboration with the Ministry of Education.

These “recruit labourers for secondary schools {will} help them establish and maintain their farms”.

“If nothing else, we can reduce the cost of school feeding and also enhance both the quality and quantity of the food provided to our students,” he said.

Hon Eric was among three nominees of President John Dramani Mahama who appeared before the Appointments Committee of Parliament on Monday to be vetted for the position.
