Eric Bekoe Wants Kotoko To Stay Out Of Africa

Former prolific striker, Eric Bekoe, wants his former Club Asante Kotoko SC to stay off next season’s CAF elite competition, Champions League.

Arguably Ghana’s biggest Club has gotten another opportunity to represent Ghana following the cancellation of Ghana Premier League by the virtue of the novel COVID-19 pandemic.

The decision taken by the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association gave the greenlight to the two times CAF Champions League winners, Asante Kotoko, who won last season’s Normalization Committee Tier One Cup the automatic qualification into the continent’s flagship Inter-Club championship.

Nonetheless, 2007/08 CAF Confederation Cup competition goal king, Eric Bekoe, believes that the Club is not so much equipped to rub shoulders with other big guns on the Continent and it will be needful for the Board of Directors to decline that opportunity.

In an exclusive interview on Opemsuo 104.7 FM evening Sports, Pramaso, Bekoe disclosed that, “Kotoko should not accept the opportunity to compete in Africa next season to waste money. The Club is not well-prepared to get group stage birth which of course will be waste of resources”

“The Board and the Technical team should work fervently to shape the Club before they will resolve to compete in Africa,” he pleads.
“For a team to perform majestically in Africa, it comes with quality crop of players. This Kotoko team is less quality,” he concluded.

Asante Kotoko was axed from last season’s Champions League competition by their Tunisian counterparts Etoil Du Sahel on 3-2 aggregate.
