Disruption In Gas Supply To Atuabo Plant Resolved- Ghana Gas
The Ghana National Gas Company (Ghana Gas) has stated that the disruption in gas supply that led to the 5-hour power outage last Friday has been resolved.
In a press statement, Ghana Gas explained the outage was caused by “an upset of our on-site power generation system causing a temporary shutdown of the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant on 7th Friday, July 2023 from 10:00 am to 5: 30 pm.”
This, it said, cut the supply of gas supplied to downstream power and non-power customers by 30%.
It said during the 5-hour outage in some parts of the country, natural gas was transported to various power generation companies to mitigate the unexpected situation.
In the press release, the Head of Communications, Ernest Kofi Owusu-Bempah Bonsu, apologized to the public for the situation and noted that the Atuabo Plant has since resumed full and uninterrupted operation.
In a statement on Friday, the Electricity Company of Ghana apologized for the power outage, stating that the interruption resulted from a gas supply failure at the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant and a technical challenge at West African Gas Pipeline Company Limited (WAPCo).
