Ennin’s Samartex Remains Unbeaten in Western Regional Derby at Samreboi

The January ‘2026 Coach of the Month, Christopher Ennin, led Samartex to a goalless draw against league leaders, Medeama.

The Timber Giants hosted the yellow and mauve outfit at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena in Week 22 of the season, marking their fourth head-to-head meeting at the same venue since Samartex made their debut on May 23, 2022.

The Ghana Premier League winners of the 2023/24 season, Samartex 1996, is one of the four clubs, along with Bibiani Gold Stars, Medeama, and Nations FC, yet to be beaten at their home grounds following Week 22 of the season.

Christopher Ennin became the third head coach of the Timber Giants in December ‘2024 and has undertaken them to twenty-three games at home without a defeat; their last setback in the Ghana Premier League was against Hearts of Lions on 14th December 2024, a week 13 fixture.

The Timber Giants were in a proud moment in January as head coach Christopher Ennin and shot-stopper Musah Zakaria were crowned the Month and Goalkeeper of the Month, respectively.

Samartex 1996 has not won a game in February of 2026, they have two drawn games and two defeats but their first home game in the month.

Christopher Ennin’s side lost to Medeama at the Round of 16 of the MTN FA Cup at the Tarkwa TNA Park on 2nd February on penalty shoot-out, and also shared the points in the first round of the season after a 1:1 draw in October ‘2025.

Mr. Ennin shared his displeasure after a draw to the league leaders, which he welcomed the results, but insisted they have to get back to the technical board to restore hope for the points lost.

“Like I always say, it’s a win, draw or lose, so we have nothing but just to go back and work. I think head-to-head, we were able to get a goal at Tarkwa. It’s quite a tough game playing with the league leaders, but that’s not what I was expecting,” Ennin stated.
