Education Minister Announces Return of PTA in Education Management

The government plans to reinstate the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) in the management of education in the country.

This was announced by the Minister for Education, Hon Haruna Iddrisu at an event on Monday, February 17, 2025.

According to him, the government intends to make the body that effectively and efficiently existed before 2017 vibrant once again.

“I am particularly happy to announce that PTA will be into the management of education in Ghana and the Presidency of John Dramani Mahama for parents and teachers to work together to improve learning outcomes in our educational institutions and for PTAs to support our educational institutions to produce quality human capital for our country.”

The PTAs were an integral part of schools, promoting and building strong working relationships between teachers or schools and parents.

Its role enhances the academic environment to improve learning outcomes.

Additionally, it played critical roles in the past such as the provision of facilities like pipe-borne water, classrooms, dormitories, and means of transport, contributing to the enhancement of discipline in schools, among others.

Under the Akufo-Addo government, the PTA became dormant.
