ECG Grants Customers Respite To Report Abnormalities In Metres
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) Limited has granted its customers respite from sanctions that accompany the illegal use of electricity.
This is in line with an audit the ECG will be conducting soon.
The Moratorium for all ECG customers began on June 7, 2022, and will end on July 6, 2022.
Customers to enjoy the moratorium included those with post-paid metres but do not receive bills; prepaid customers who do not purchase electricity credits; customers who have bypassed or tampered with their metres and are therefore not paying for the full cost of power usage; and customers who have engaged in any form of electrical illegality.
Such customers are to report to ECG District or Regional offices for rectification, the ECG noted.
“Please note that after this Moratorium, customers who are caught stealing electricity, which is criminal, will be charged with the offence of stealing in accordance with the law.”
Additionally, it said names of such persons shall be published widely.
