East Legon Accident: Salifu Amoako’s Son Remanded After Manslaughter Charge
The sixteen-year-old son of Bishop Elisha Amoako at the centre of the East Legon accident has been remanded into custody following his arraignment in court on November 1, 2024.
He was charged with manslaughter, according to a statement issued by the police on Friday.
“The 16-year-old suspect driver involved in the fatal East Legon accident which occurred on 12th October 2024, claiming two lives, has been remanded into custody by the Accra Juvenile and Family Court.”
The teenager is expected to reappear in court on November 7, 2024.
“The Court further ordered that the juvenile’s travelling documents be deposited with the Court,” the statement added.
Background
The son of the clergyman was driving a Jaguar SUV vehicle with registration number GN 7801-20 alongside one passenger when he rammed into a 4X4 Acura vehicle with registration number GR 2542-23 which had five occupants including the driver.
Both vehicles got torched by an electric pole at the scene. Passerby successfully rescued three occupants of the Acura as well as the two occupants of the SUV.
The remaining two who were pre-teens unfortunately perished in the fire.
Following this, the police arrested the parents of the suspect driver, Bishop Salifu Amoako and his wife, Mouha Amoako as well as one other and charged them with permitting an unlicensed person to drive.
They were subsequently granted bail in the sum of GH¢150,000.
