Duayaw Nkwanta: Enstool No Chief Until Dispute is Resolved – Otumfuo
Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has prohibited all the Kingmakers of Duayaw Nkwanta from proceeding with any planned or spontaneous enstoolment of a new chief to succeed Nana Boakye Tromo III, who passed away two years ago.
His Majesty stated that all outstanding misunderstandings will have to be resolved before enstoolment can take place to prevent bloodshed and conflict persistence.
In the meantime, Akwamuhene Nana Boakye Bonsu will take charge of the Traditional Area, Otumfuo noted.
This was declared when the Asanteman Council met on Monday, August 19, 2024, to adjudicate some cases confronting some paramountcies including that of Duayaw Nkwanta in the Ahafo Region.
Royalty Dispute
The Tetretem Family in the Traditional Area claimed to be royals entitled to the Paramount Stool.
Standing before the King of the Asante Kingdom and the entire Council on Monday, the Queen acknowledged them as royals; however, she explained that they had been banned from ascending the Duayaw Nkwanta stool.
According to her, it happened many years ago when the group committed a taboo- specifics of which she did not relay.
She noted that her family is the only remaining royals entitled to the stool.
Her position was sternly debunked by the Head of the Tetretem Family who claimed to be related to the Queen, compelling him to invoke the Great Oath in the presence of the Council. The Queen challenged the Oath advancing the case further for a probe.
Warning
Otumfuo in his submission assured the parties of getting to the bottom of the issue as he urged them to gather their evidence to back their cases.
“It’s now up to you to prove your respective assertions to make way for peace to reign. We will get to the bottom of this.”
That notwithstanding, he warned the parties against proceeding with the enstoolment of a new Chief.
“Akwamuhene will now be in charge of the traditional area. None of you have the right to enstool a new chief until this case is settled.”
