Drivers Ignore Road Regulations – Ms Pearl Adusu Gyesi

The Head of Communications of the National Road Safety Authority (NSRA) in Ghana, Ms Pearl Adusu Gyesi, has disclosed that a contributory factor to the increase of road accidents in the country is that road users do not adhere to road regulations.
Drivers mostly fail to adhere to road regulations and the moment it happens, the driver in question can be involved in an accident depending on the speed level or the vehicle can collide with another and passengers can be injured or end up losing their lives.
She said this in an interview on Opemsuo on Monday, August 30, 2021.
“Another contributing factor is that Ghanaians are not concerned about the issue of road accidents as compared to Covid-19 pandemic”, She added
The NRSA Public Relations Officer (PRO) explained that, “It is the duty of the National Road Safety Commission to educate road users and set regulations for them to follow.
And after that it becomes the duty of the Motor Traffic & Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service to monitor see to it that users abide by the said regulations”.
She explained that, “Since 2019 Public education on road accidents has increased by 85% which shows that we are giving Ghanaians the needed education about our roads”
Data collated by the Motor Traffic & Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service shows that 771 persons died between January and March this year as a result of road accidents.
