Drivers And Car Owners Are Suffering – GPRTU Chairman
The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), Mr. Sumaila Boakye has stated that drivers and car owners are suffering due to rampant fuel hikes as far as transport activities are concerned.
Speaking to Opemsuo news, he said, diesel prices stand at more than GHC50 per gallon while petrol prices stands at GHC52 per gallon.
Mr. Boakye lamented the fact that there is no fixed price on fuel at the various filling stations in the country.
According to Mr. Boakye, it is time for the Government to think about drivers concerning their driving activities to reduce burdens in the transport operations.
Furthermore, Mr. Boakye disclosed that the Union met in Accra on Thursday, June 16, 2022, concerning their plans to increase transport fares again.
He said, the Union will do their possible best to enhance drivers’ welfare at this time of high prices of fuel in the country.
Mr. Boakye stated that the Union has presented their demands to the Transport Minister, Hon. Kwaku Ofori Asiamah to consider their move to upward adjust transport fares.
According to him, the Transport Minister, Hon. Ofori Asiamah requested some time to go through their petition and meet the Union in relation to transport fares increment.
Finally, Mr. Boakye stressed that definitely transport fares will go up again any moment from now.
