Don’t Just Invest, Conduct Feasibility Studies First- Otumfuo to SSNIT

The Monarch of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has urged the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) of Ghana to prioritise the interests of Ghana and workers when subscribing to any investment package.
His Majesty noted that feasibility studies were essential in determining the viability of every investment proposal it receives.
“You can carry contributions and invest in real estate, but it will be a major loss if it turns out to be unprofitable. In that case, we will have to use current contributions to settle benefits and this will bring about what was called the pension pyramid.”
“To avoid this, you will have to undertake feasibility studies before approving any investment proposal…Don’t just approve investment proposals, prioritise Ghana and workers.”
The Asantehene delivered these remarks when the Director-General of SSNIT, Mr Kwasi Afreh Biney, visited the Manhyia Palace on July 23, 2025, to formally introduce himself.
The King counselled the new leader to submit to the inputs of his subordinates. His Majesty also counselled the Management to enhance the work of the new leader by offering their expertise.
“Your titles are testaments to your expertise. You have to make use of it by offering them to assist the D-G.”
Mr Afreh Biney was accompanied by his Deputy, Adam Sulley, the General Manager in charge of Investment and Development, Ms. Patience Akua Owusu and the Acting General Manager in charge of Management Information Systems, Mr. Joseph Appiah Mensah.
