Desist from Helping Foreigners get Voters’ ID – EC warns Ghanaians
The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana is asking citizenry to desist from assisting aliens register in the ongoing voters’ registration exercise across the country to ensure free and transparent elections.
“The Electoral Commission has noted with concern attempts by Non-Ghanaians
to register as voters in the ongoing Voters Registration Exercise”, statement signed by Acting Public Affairs Director of the Commission, Sylvia Annor said
“The Commission wishes to remind the General Public that it is an offence for
Non-Ghanaians to register as Voters in the Exercise”, the statement pointed out.
C.I. 91 explicitly states that Non-Ghanaian citizens are not entitled to register as
Voters on our Electoral Roll
Non-Ghanaians who are caught in the act will each be liable to pay a hefty fine
or serve a two (2) year term of imprisonment or both”.
The Commission therefore urges the General Public to expose and peacefully resist
attempts by Non-Ghanaians to register during the Voters Registration Exercise.
