Demand Passage of Consumer Protection Bill- CPA

Mr. Kofi Owusu Ohene, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Consumer Protection Agency (CPA) has called on Ghanaians to demand answers from their Members of Parliament (MPs) on the status of the Consumer Protection Bill that has been before Parliament for a while now.

Speaking with the media, Mr. Ohene expressed his disappointment in the delay in passing the bill, which seeks to protect consumers from exploitation and ensure their rights are upheld.

“The current Consumer Protection regime consists of legislative and regulatory provisions scattered in several pieces of legislation. This makes it inadequate,” he added.

He emphasized that the bill is crucial for the protection of consumers’ rights, and its passage would go a long way in ensuring that businesses operate within the confines of the law.

The Consumer Protection Bill seeks to establish a legal framework for the protection of consumers’ rights, and to provide mechanisms for redress in the event of a breach of those rights.
