Coach Tanko “Angry” At Players After Opening Match

Head coach of Black Meteors, Ibrahim Tanko says he is “angry” at some of his players’ posture towards Sunday’s match against Congo in the U23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.

During a post-match interview, he expressed his sentiments.

“I’m happy we have three points but at the same time, I’m very angry at my players…The body language of the players, I’m not happy so I will have to address that. We hope that the next game will be better,” he told the press.

He is angered by the two late goals by the opponents.

He went into the game with Danlad Ibrahim, Ernest Nuamah, Emmanuel Essiam, Terry Yegbe, Dominic Nosbila, Abdul Issahaku, Aaron Essel, David Oppong Afrane, Sylvester Simba, Daniel Afriyie Barnieh and Edmund Arko-Mensah.

After a goalless first half, Coach Tanko rendered some gruelling changes to his men including Captain Afriyie Barnieh.

Afriyie Barnieh and Sylvester Simba were replaced in the 46th minute by Emmanuel Yeboah and Hafiz Ibrahim.

The scoresheet was opened five minutes into the second half by Ernest Nuamah with an assist from substitute Yeboah who at the 76th mark hit the back of the net to extend Ghana’s lead.

Yeboah made it three when he converted a penalty into a goal in the 83rd minute.

In the 90th minute, Congo secured their first goal and added their second four minutes later.

Yeboah was adjudged the Man of the Match.

Ghana will face host Morocco on Tuesday, June 27 at the same stadium and Coach Tanko said the team will go back to the drawing board to work on their errors and prepare for Morocco.

“Both teams won our opening games so we are going to prepare well for the game and ensure that we get good results.”
