Cholera Kills 5 In Kasoa

Five persons have been confirmed dead as a result of a cholera outbreak at Kasoa in the Awutu Senya East Municipality of the Central Region.

About 30 others are also on admission at the Kasoa Polyclinic and the Mother and Child Hospital as a result of the outbreak.

The Municipal Chief Executive for Awutu Senya East, Anita Love Obo Amissah, who made this known, said three of the victims died on Thursday night and the other two on Friday afternoon.

“As I speak to you, five persons have unfortunately lost their lives because of this disease,” she told journalists after touring the Kasoa Polyclinic last Friday.

Cases
She said most of the cases that occurred at the Kasoa New Market Health Centre were referred to the Kasoa Polyclinic.

As of last Thursday, she said the cases were about 21 and the next day, it increased to 30.

Also, Ms Amissah stated that the Gomoa East and the Awutu Senya West Districts had also recorded cases which had been referred to Kasoa.

She commended the doctors and nurses at the Kasoa Polyclinic who managed most of the cases that were sent there.

“The good news is, that the doctors and nurses are doing very well – they have managed a lot of people and by the grace of God, they are fine,” She said.

Appeal
The Municipal Chief Executive advised people living in the municipality to be mindful of what they eat, adding that they should ensure that they always eat food while it is still hot and also wash their hands regularly.

She further appealed to persons with symptoms of the disease to report to the hospital for treatment before things got out of hands

The Awutu Senya East Municipal Environmental officer, Godson Lodo called on the general public to be careful about the food they buy outside.

Food vendors, he also advised, must ensure they practice the standard personal hygiene for handling food.
