China Promises Ghana $28 million Grant

China has committed to giving Ghana a grant of 200 million RMD, an equivalent of US$28,067,024.05.

The promise was made to President John Dramani Mahama during his bilateral talks with President Xi Jinping.

The amount will be an additional grant from China following an earlier grant of 200 million RMD for the construction of the proposed Aflao Market and renovation of the National Theatre in Accra.

President John Mahama, who is currently in the Asian country, announced this in a social media post on Thursday.

He described the Aflao market as an important trading platform linking Ghana and Togo, and key to his government’s resetting Agenda.

Their discussion also focused on implementing responsible and licensed small-scale mining in Ghana; trade investment in Ghana’s 24-hour economy initiative; exploring trade and investment opportunities; Green Transition policy; and more.

Meanwhile, President Mahama said he was looking forward to finalising the Zero Tariff Policy with China by the end of October.

“I reassured President Xi of Ghana’s commitment to the One China Policy and to continue our collaboration towards a new Global System of Governance being spearheaded by him.”\
