Both NDC and NPP agreed On Hon.Bagbin To Become The Speaker For The Eighth Parliament – Nana Akufo-Addo
His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo today January 11, 2021 spoke on Opemsuo 104.7 FM.
In an interview with the host of Nkwantananso, Agudey, the president was asked about how his government is going to deal with the recent chaos in parliament.
He responded by saying ” we began solving this issue with the Speaker of Parliament. We all saw that chaos won’t help us. That’s why both the National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party agreed for Mr. Kingsford Alban Bagbin to become the Speaker of Parliament.”
“This was followed by the decision of a member of the New Patriotic Party to become first deputy speaker. We needed the deputy speakers to come from different political parties. That’s why Hon. Andrew Amoako Asiamah became the second deputy speaker who is an independent candidate.”
“What I know is both sides (New Patriotic Party and National Democratic Congress) are preparing to sit down to find an amicable solution for the well being of the nation. We cannot afford to have a situation where the government will be moving towards one direction and the legislature also moving towards another direction. That won’t help the development of the nation.”
The president concluded that in most times of critical bills, everything that goes on in parliament is based on consensus. Even looking at the current parliament, they are going to use consensus. There is going to be a consultations between the two sides. That will be the way forward for the democracy of the country.
