Black Meteors Back In Ghana
Ghana’s U23 team have arrived in the country after their early exit from the ongoing U23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
The Black Meteors were denied advancement into the semi-final stage after a face-off with Guinea in the final Group A match played at the Ibn Batouta Stadium in Tangier on Friday night.
They were held to a 1-1 draw which saw Guinea advance to the knock-out stage with a point difference.
In a post-match press conference, the head coach of the Meteors, Coach Ibrahim Tanko, said, “We disappointed Ghanaians and ourselves. We thought we will go far in this competition but this is what happened”.
“It’s a very painful pill to take. After leading at halftime and come back to concede such a goal is so bitter. But that is football. We prepared to win but in the end, we got a draw which wasn’t enough to take us into the semi-finals.”
Coach Tanko’s boys throughout the competition managed one win, one loss and a draw finishing third.
They arrived in Ghana on Monday and are expected to submit their tournament report to the GFA’s Executive Council for its assessment.
