Bawumia Rebuts Allegations Super Delegates Conference Was Skewed

The vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has sternly contested allegations that the New Patriotic Party’s Super Delegates Conference was manipulated in favour of one candidate.

The allegation was made on Tuesday by Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen who until the end of the day was part of candidates seeking to lead the Party into the 2024 General Elections.

According to Alan, the results were “strategically and tactically skewed”.

“After having carefully analysed the results of the said elections, it is absolutely clear to me from events leading to, during and after the elections, that the Special Delegates Conference was strategically and tactically skewed in favour of one particular Aspirant,” a portion of a statement announcing Alan’s withdrawal read.

A statement from the campaign team of the vice President- Bawumia Must Win (BMW)- on Wednesday said it was taken aback by the allegation which it said has the propensity to destract party cohesion.

The team said though Alan failed to name the said candidate who was favoured, “It is pretty clear” the reference points to Bawumia.

According to the team, Bawumia won the Super Delegates Conference on August 26 “on his own strength” through his “convincing message and impeccable relations with delegates.”

It asserts the election was “free, fair and transparent.”

On the injury Alan’s agent in the North East Region sustained which was cited as another basis for his withdrawal, the team said the allegation was “factually inaccurate and intellectually dishonest for anyone to use that isolated incident to rubbish an otherwise smooth process.”

Withdrawal
Alan was scheduled to deliver a public broadcast on Tuesday afternoon on the new strategies his campaign team will be using after they unexpectedly fell third during the NPP’s Super Delegates Conference last month.

He cancelled the broadcast early on Tuesday morning without any reason but subsequently put out a press statement announcing his withdrawal from the contest.

“I wish to confirm that I am honourably withdrawing from the process that will lead to the Presidential Primaries to be held on the 4th of November 2023,” he said in his statement.

Reason
Alan cited intimidation and manipulation of results for the decision.

“After having carefully analysed the results of the said elections, it is absolutely clear to me from events leading to, during and after the elections, that the Special Delegates Conference was strategically and tactically skewed in favour of one particular Aspirant. The pronouncements made by some leading Members of our Party both before and after the elections, also lend weight to my observations.”

He alleged delegates in the Super Delegates Conference were subjected to “intimidation of varying intensity, directly and indirectly”.

Further, he said the decision was in the interest of his supporters as he is “committed to, and value the safety”.
