Ayawaso East Constituency Elects an MP Today

The Ayawaso East Constituency is going to the polls today to elect a representative to fill the vacant Parliamentary seat.

A total of 49,966 registered voters will participate in the by-election following the demise of former lawmaker Mahama Naser Toure in January 2026.

Representing the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is Baba Jamal, Yussif Baba Ali for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ibrahim Iddrisu for the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Ibrahim Iddrisu, Alhaji Mohammed Umaru Sanda as an independent candidate, and David Kannor, also as an independent candidate.

Meanwhile, the Accra Regional Police Command has assured the public of its preparedness to provide adequate security before, during, and after the election.

In a statement, it noted that the Command had deployed adequate Police personnel across all designated polling stations and key locations to ensure a peaceful, transparent, and orderly electoral process.

“The Police will maintain a visible presence and conduct patrols before, during, and after the election to prevent any acts that may disrupt public peace and security.”

It further cautioned the public against engaging in acts of violence, intimidation, spreading misinformation, or any conduct that may undermine the integrity of the electoral process.

It vowed to deal with such persons.

It added, “The Command urges all eligible voters to exercise their civic responsibility peacefully and to report any suspicious activities.”
