The Member of Parliament for Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam Constituency, Cassiel Ato Forson has said he is “honoured and humbled” by the appointment given to him by the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
In a Facebook post, the new Minority Leader in Parliament expressed his appreciation to the party’s executives, his fellow legislators and Ghanaians.
“I am honoured and humbled to have been chosen to lead our illustrious and gallant caucus in Parliament.
“I thank the leadership of our party who have placed their trust and confidence in me. I am also deeply grateful to colleagues, the rank and file of our party and the Ghanaian people for their profound support and solidarity.”
He disclosed he had held “fruitful” meetings with the immediate past Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu.
The NDC in a letter to the Speaker of Parliament informed him about changes in its Parliamentary leadership.
The changes affected Haruna Iddrisu, Hon. James Klutse Avedzi, Deputy Minority Leader and Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka, Minority Chief Whip.
The Member of Parliament for Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam Constituency, Cassiel Ato Forson now replaces Haruna Iddrisu as Minority leader. He will be assisted by Kofi Armah Buah as the Deputy Minority Leader.
Meanwhile, Kwame Agboza will replace Muntaka Mubarak as the Chief Whip.
According to the General Secretary of the party, Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey, the changes in the Party’s Parliamentary leadership are meant to position the party for the 2024 Elections.
Although the NDC has been divided by the development, Ato Forson has promised to represent the collective goals of the Minority with “unwavering dedication and high integrity”.
“I have no doubt that with your support we shall succeed”, the post on Thursday, January 26 said.
