Ashanti Caucus MPs Embrace Otumfuo’s Advice to Remember their Roots and Not Prioritize Staying in Accra

The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Oforikrom constituency, Hon. Michael Kwasi Aidoo, has stated that all MPs in the Ashanti Caucus in Parliament have carefully considered the advice from the Ashanti monarch, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

The advice encourages them to always remember their roots and not prioritize staying in Accra.

On Friday, November 10, 2023, during a fundraising event at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital to support renovations, the Overlord of the Ashanti Kingdom cautioned the Ashanti Regional MPs not to be overly focused on staying in Accra.

According to Hon. Aidoo, the Caucus in the 9th Parliament has fully embraced the king’s advice.

Regarding the NPP’s performance in the recently concluded presidential and parliamentary elections in the Ashanti region, where the party lost four seats, Hon. Aidoo expressed that the party would reorganize and work hard to reclaim these traditional seats in the 2028 general elections.

He also emphasized that the party must engage in thorough retrospection, be truthful, and humble itself before aggrieved members.

“When we engage with them, the party will become attractive again, and they will come out in their numbers to vote in the 2028 elections,” he said.

“You build more enemies than friends when you are in government because you will step on so many toes without knowing, and it is time to apologise to each other we have offended when we were in government, and at this moment we are going to reflect and restructure the party and in next four years any candidate we present for general elections, Ghanaians will accept and vote for NPP.”
