Fire MMDCEs In Galamsey Areas- NPP Youth Wing to Mahama
The National Youth Wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has suggested a radical approach to the fight against illegal mining, known as galamsey.
In a statement, it called for the dismissal of all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives in galamsey-hit areas.
“Either they have failed or they are tacitly involved and have approval from the top echelon. HE. John Dramani Mahama, your MP for Asutifi North, disrespected your orders and led a group of thugs to attack the NAIMOS team that you have empowered to fight the menace…Your authority is challenged, and the world waits to see your response.”
It recognises that the illegal mining activities appear to be conforming to how guerrilla wars, such as the armed groups around Rivers state in Nigeria, which is oil-related.
The wing also expressed worry over the height of audacity and impunity by the galamsey cartels as well as the heavy weapons with which they are armed.
“The current situation calls for a radical response…The threat to national security cannot be overemphasised…Therefore, this matter cannot be swept under the carpet and treated as business as usual. The consequences are too dire.”
