Asantehene to Grace Methodist Conference

Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has accepted an invitation to join the six-day conference of the Methodist Church of Ghana.

The annual Conference being held in Kumasi has drawn Bishops from across Europe, America and Africa into Ghana’s second capital.

The visiting Bishops as well as those within the country were led to the Manhyia Palace by the Presiding Bishop of the Church, Most Rev Dr Paul Kwabena Boafo on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, during the Awukudae Festival

In his address, Most Rev Kwabena Boafo officially informed Otumfuo about the conference, sought his permission and humbly served him an invitation.

“We will hold our 51st Conference in Kumasi this week and we couldn’t come and do it without first paying homage to the King and seeking his blessings. We have prominent clergymen from Nigeria, Togo, the US, the UK and Sierra Leone here to join the conference. We would like to use this opportunity to invite His Majesty to the event which has already started and ends on Sunday.”

HEAL KATH
The Church also donated towards the Heal Komfo Ankye Teaching Hospital Project championed by the King to give a facelift to the 70-year-old medical facility.

“We make a contribution to Heal KATH with an amount of ¢100,000,” he announced and handed over a cheque.

Expression of Admiration
The Religious body also presented a plaque as an expression of their admiration and appreciation towards the King for his enormous contribution to the Church’s evolution over the years on the soils of Asanteman.

Rev Kwabena Boafo hailed the Asantehene’s highly welcoming reception of the church.

Inscriptions on the plaque read, “With deep gratitude and admiration for Your Majesty’s steadfast support, precious hosting and dedication to our church and community, in recognition of your sterling leadership and revered reign over the past 25 years, the Methodist Church Ghana honours you with this plaque. May your legacy of wisdom and benevolence continue to inspire all who are touched by your greatness.”

Invitation Acceptance
The King in his address accepted the invitation of the Church.

“I am a member of this church and even when I’m not around, I designate someone to attend the Conference. I will definitely join you this Sunday. I will join you to pray this Sunday when the conference climaxes.”
