Asantehene Grants Audience to Ghana’s Envoy to South Africa

The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has granted audience to officials and staff of Ghana’s High Commission in Pretoria.
The delegation led by High Commissioner Benjamin Anani Quashie paid a courtesy visit to the Asantehene at his residence in Sandton on February 18.
According to the High Commission, the visit, which went through the necessary protocols, was used formally welcome His Majesty to the country.
Otumfuo is in South Africa on a break from all official duties, which took effect on February 3, 2026.
The leave is expected to enable the Monarch to catch up with the needed respite and refreshment to continue his duties to Asanteman and Ghana at large.
In the Asantehene’s absence, Kumasi was delegated to Baffour Owusu Amankwatia VI, Bantamahene, while Asanteman was committed to Nana Dwamena Akenten II, Offinsohene.
It follows the celebration of the first Akwasidae Festival on February 1, 2026. The colourful event drew dignitaries from across the country to the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.
His Majesty is expected to return in March.
