Asantehene Accepts Invitation to Mfantsipim’s 150th Anniversary

The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is gearing up for the 150th anniversary of Mfantsipim School in 2026 after accepting their invitation.

Speaking on behalf of the group during a courtesy visit on October 9, 2024, Ebusuapanyin Moses Baiden Junior underscored the relations between the Palace and the School as it recalled how it assisted in the establishment of Prempeh College during the era of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Agyemang Prempeh II.

He noted that it was therefore imperative for the Palace to receive the first invitation to the celebration and be kept updated on the plans.

“We are here to invite Otumfuo to the event. No one has been invited yet. We wanted to start here. There is a strong relationship between Manhyia and Mfantsipim,” he said highlighting the King’s commitment to education.

Otumfuo accepted the invitation, noting that it will mark eighty years since Asantehene Prempeh II made a historic visit to Cape Coast in the Central Region for their event.

He disclosed he wanted to visit the school when he visited Cape Coast in September in reflection of history but restrained himself as he had not issued a prior notice to the school.

“Asantehene Prempeh was invited by Mfantsipim for their event. That was what sent him there for the first time. I wanted to go there when I visited but then I thought I had not given prior notice. Since you have come today, I will prepare and come in the next two years. It will be 80 years since he went there.”

Among the delegation were Daniel Andoh, the National Executive Council member, Ben Andoh, the Regional Executive member and James Dadson, a National Executive Council member.
