Arrest Made In Ablekuma Bullion Van Attack
Four people are in the grips of the Police Service in connection with the shooting of a police officer in a bullion van robbery last month.
Their arrest was announced on the same day the officer identified as General Lance Corporal Callistus Amoah, was laid to rest on July 14.
According to a statement from the Service, the first suspect was arrested on Saturday with the rest on Sunday.
“The four are in custody assisting the police investigation. Further details will be communicated in due course,” the brief communication from the service said.
Background
At around 1 pm on June 22, 2023, four armed robbers, per a CCTV footage, stormed a filling station where the bullion van was, on two motorbikes and immediately launched an attack.
One of the robbers was captured jumping off one of the motorbikes and moving straight to the police escort’s side. He opened the door to the car and shot the police escort multiple times.
They then exited the venue on the motorbikes.
The police officer died later according to reports.
The Service on July 14 held a pre-burial service at the St. George’s Catholic Church, National Police Training School (NPTS), Tesano, Accra in honour of the Officer.
General Lance Corporal Callistus Amoah was enlisted into the Ghana Police Service as a General Recruit on 3rd January 2017. After some months of vigorous training at the Police Public Safety Training School (PPSTS), Pwalugu, in the Upper East Region he passed out on 6th September 2017, as a General Constable.
He was later posted to the National Protection Unit (NPU) in the Greater Accra Region, the only station he served in his entire Police career. He further gained promotion to the rank of Lance Corporal on 1st January 2022, the rank he held until his untimely death on 22nd June 2023.
