Appiah-Kubi Didn’t Cooperate With Us- OSP On Bribery Scandal

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has disclosed the Member of Parliament for the Asante-Akim North Constituency, Andy Kwame Appiah-Kubi, displayed an unyielding attitude during its investigations into an attempted bribery scandal by a wealthy businessman.

The legislator in an interview in 2022 alleged that a “wealthy” businessman in the country requested a meeting with some members of the Majority Caucus and offered them huge sums of money in envelops in the quest to influence their demand for the removal of Ken Ofori Atta, the Finance Minister.

In its report, the OSP said the lawmaker admitted to granting the media interview during interrogations but thereafter invoked his right to remain silent.

“He refused to disclose the identities of the Members of Parliament present at the meeting with the undisclosed businessman. He refused to disclose the identity of the wealthy businessman. He refused to disclose the amount of money offered by the undisclosed businessman. He refused to answer all other questions posed to him.”

He is also accused of displaying hostility towards the authorised officers of the OSP showing an unyielding attitude to cooperate with the investigation.

This was after ranting about his resolve to cooperate in the investigations to the media and subsequently lying to the media about fully cooperating after his encounter with the OSP.

Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for Suame constituency, Hon Kyei Mensah Bonsu who at the peak of the news reiterated the allegations, told the investigators his statement was based on rumours and the fore statement of his colleague.
