Bawumia Seeks Otumfuo’s Blessings for NPP Presidential Primaries

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has sought the blessings of the King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for the final round of the New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s presidential primaries which will be held on November 4, 2023.

Clad in traditional kente cloth, the Vice President of the country was accompanied to the Manhyia Palace during the sixth Akwasidae on September 3, 2023, by some government officials, Members of Parliament and executives of the NPP.

In his address at the event, he said he recognized that the blessings of Otumfuo had an enormous impact on his victory in the Party’s Super Delegates Conference which was held last week.

He said aside from joining the King to celebrate the Akwasidae, his mission to the Palace was to thank him for his prayers.

“God bless him and may you live long. I came to inform him about my bid to lead the party earlier this year. He blessed me and I emerged victorious. I came here to thank him, his chiefs and Asanteman.”

He further emphasized that he was in dire need of the King’s blessings and prayers as he goes into the final stage of the NPP’s presidential elections with five other candidates.

“We are not done. I still need his blessings so I am here for his blessings ahead of the election.”

He thereby presented some drinks for prayer on his behalf.

The NPP undertook its Super Delegates Conference on Saturday, August 26, 2023, to trim down the number of presidential aspirants of the party from 10 to five.

The ten included Mahamudu Bawumia, Ken Agyapong, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, Owusu Afriyie Akoto, Boakye Agyarko, Francis Addai Nimoh, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, Joe Ghartey, Kwadwo Poku and Kofi Konadu Apraku.

Out of a total of 923 votes cast across all regions, Mahamudu Bawumia took the lead with 629 votes followed by Ken Agyapong with 132 then Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen with 95 and Owusu Afriyie Akoto with 36 votes and Francis Addai-Nimoh with 9 votes.
