Antoa Stool: Asantehene Authorises Enstoolment

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, has authorised the enstoolment of Kofi Ofori, a former Family Head of Antoa, as the Chief of the town.
It comes after the family head of Dwenase in Antoa, Twumasi Dantey, invoked the Great Oath to stall processes by the Adonteng Division to present him before the King to take an oath of allegiance after all rites were performed.
At the Kumasi Traditional Council meeting on February 20, 2025, Twumasi was offered a hearing.
Defilement
In his submission, Twumasi stated that Ofori was unclean to occupy the stool.
He accused the candidate of committing adultery with a married woman as well as sleeping with two siblings.
In the case of the married woman, he alleged that the case was before the priest of the Antoa deity.
“He has been found guilty and fined. However he has refused to pay the fine to the husband of the woman. This has provoked the husband to invoke curses on him with the Antoa deity.”
When asked if they had been petitioned about the allegations of adultery, all the Stool Elders of Antoa denied knowledge.
Views
At the instance of the Asantehene, all the Divisions of the Council had their views aired, with all ruling that the Great Oath was invoked in vain.
However, as some opined that the allegations should be discarded as the case was still pending resolution, others found it had enough merit that needed the attention of the King.
“Why didn’t they raise these concerns while Ofori was the Family Head and only found voices now that he is to become chief of the town?” the majority questioned, stating that the allegation was an attempt to soil his image.
“An investigation must be carried out to ascertain the truth behind the allegations,” Aboabogyahene, Ankobea Division, Mamwere Division, Nkosuo Divisions and Otumfuo Kyeame Banahene dissented.
Criticism
The Asantehene before delivering his verdict criticized the opposers for voicing out these concerns late.
His Majesty noted that he intentionally made room for the candidature of Ofori to be opposed as he had gotten intel that he had transgressed.
“I heard he was into indiscriminate sale of lands and committing adultery. Why did the family allow him to continue reigning as the head? When the time to select a candidate to replace the former came, why didn’t any of you come forward with the allegations you are making now?
“Why did you wait for all the enstoolment rites to be performed? I was looking forward to an objection. No one came to divulge. Or you never imagined he would be selected to ascend the stool? I have already spat, endorsing his selection and I cannot take back on my word now.”
Deity’s Judgement
The Asantehene while authorizing his enstoolment, delivered Ofori into the hands of the deity for judgement.
“Antoa deity belongs to me. In case he is guilty of all these charges, let the curses invoked against him take effect. Let the deity kill him when he ascends the stool.”
Oath of Allegiance
Meanwhile, Otumfuo charged the Adonteng Division to bring Ofori to the next Council meeting to take the oath of allegiance after which his occupancy will become legitimate.
“Bring him to take the oath on Monday {February 25, 2025}.”
