Another Covid Immunization Campaign Starts In Ashanti Region
Ahead of the Christmas festivities, the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has instituted another national covid vaccination campaign across the country.
The Ashanti region will thus get its fair share of the Campaign.
The five-day campaign began on December 14 and is expected to end on December 18.
This was relayed before the members of the Regional House of Chiefs at their last meeting of the year 2022.
The campaign will feature sensitisation on covid vaccination as well as a vaccination exercise.
Speaking on behalf of the Ashanti Regional Director of Health, Dr Emmanuel Tinkorang, the Kumasi Metropolitan Health Director of the GHS, Dr Akosua Omari-Sasu said 2,249,235 (69.8%) people have received a single dose while 1,550,650 (48.1%) have been double vaxxed since vaccination began in the region.
She noted that although there is a huge improvement, a lot more need to be vaccinated to protect the whole nation.
“This will enable us protect our loved ones. We are going to have another Campaign that is, the national immunization Days. it will be done in five days. We are encouraging people to come for vaccines as well as the immune boosters. We are doing this to protect our families and in that way protect the nation.”
In addition to their house-to-house campaign, vaccines centres will be instituted in all district hospitals across the country, she noted.
Persons 15 years and above as well as pregnant women can get vaccinated, she said.
In reaction, the Kumawumanhene Barimah Sarfo Tweneboah Kodua urged his fellow chiefs to get vaccinated ahead of the Christmas which will be marked by visits from persons from all walks of life.
“The disease has come to stay. All we can do is to protect ourselves….I will plead with our chiefs to comply with the health directive and urge our subjects to comply as well.”
