AngloGold Ashanti Committed to Development of Host Communities – Manager

The Senior Manager of Engineering at AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine (AGA), Mr. Eric Broni, has reiterated the commitment of the mining company to fulfilling the 10-year Socio-Economic Development Plan.

In 2022, AGA launched its 10-year comprehensive plan to improve all sectors of host communities in a bid to diversify the local economy such that the mining shall not be the only source of livelihood for residents.

The plan, which has almost every sector captured is being implemented in stages.

Speaking during a sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of a CHPS Compound at Apitikoo in the Obuasi Municipality, Mr. Broni said healthcare is a key component in the plan and that they believe in investing in the well-being of their host communities.

“At AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine, we believe that investing in the well-being of the communities we operate in is paramount. Therefore, we are thrilled to be spearheading the establishment of the CHPS Compound at Apitikooko.”

The project is estimated to cost 3.5 million Cedis and expected to be completed within seven months after sod-cutting and it is being constructed by Bodtech Company Limited, a local based engineering firm.

He said, “the project demonstrates our commitment to sustainable development and making a positive impact on the lives of the people residing in these areas.”

When completed, it is expected to provide quality primary healthcare to Apitikooko residents and that they will not have to travel long distances to access health facilities.

“We envision the CHPS Compound becoming a pillar of support for residents, providing them with quality healthcare services and fostering healthier and happier community,” he emphasized.

The facility he says will ensure that residents of Apitikooko will not travel long distance to access primary healthcare.

The Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive, Hon Elijah Adansi Bonah, applauded AGA for the facility and for supporting the diversification agenda to ensure the Obuasi local economy will not solely hinge on the mining company.

Nana Kwaku Pokor III, the Kunkahene on his part assured AGA and other investors of the availability of lands for developmental projects. He pledged the commitment of the elders to ensure timely maintenance of the facility when completed to continuously provide quality healthcare to the people.
