Alleged Assault of Jacobu Police Officers Under Probe

An alleged physical assault on a police patrol team at Jacobu in the Ashanti Region is under investigation, the Ghana Police Service has announced.

In a statement, it reported that the said officers were attacked by a group of civilians at Bepotenten Sukuum on January 23, 2026, after recovering a pump-action gun from a 15-year-old boy and instructing him to inform the owner to report to the police station with the appropriate documents.

On their way, the officers were reportedly confronted by the group of approximately 100 armed individuals who had blocked the road.

In the course of the attack, a service rifle was seized by a member of the group, according to the police.

In an ensuing confrontation, the assailant who had taken the weapon was shot, and another was injured.

The service rifle was successfully recovered, the statement noted.

It further warned the public against attacking its personnel.

“The Police Command would like to once again caution the public against attacks on our officers since perpetrators will be pursued and arrested to face the full rigours of the law.”
