Alban Bagbin Slams Black Stars After Germany Defeat, Questions Team Direction

Ghana’s Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has strongly criticised the Black Stars following their 2-1 defeat to Germany, raising concerns about the team’s direction after a disappointing March international window.

Ghana endured a difficult run of results, first suffering a heavy 5-1 defeat to Austria in Vienna before the narrow loss to Germany in Stuttgart.

The performances exposed defensive frailties and highlighted deeper issues within the team, ultimately resulting in the dismissal of Otto Addo.

With less than three months to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the GFA is now actively searching for a new coach to take charge of the team.

Speaking at the launch of the Democracy Cup, Bagbin did not hold back in his assessment of the Black Stars’ recent performances, questioning both the quality on display and the overall direction of the team.

He stressed that the level shown in the Germany defeat was unacceptable and did not reflect the standards expected of Ghana football.

“This cannot be Ghana. What happened yesterday (Monday) is not coaching,” he said.

Bagbin’s comments add to growing public concern over the state of the national team, especially at a time when preparations for the World Cup are entering a crucial phase.

With the search for a new coach underway and performances under scrutiny, the Black Stars face increasing pressure to quickly regroup and restore belief ahead of the global tournament.
