Akufo-Addo: My Policies Are Sound To Get The Economy To Rebound

The President of Ghana has expressed strong confidence in policies put in place to get the economy of the country to rebound.

According to him, the policies to rebound the economy include the GhanaCare Obaatanpa Programme and the Post COVID-19 Economic Recovery Programme.

Speaking in an interview on Radio North Star in the Northern region, President Akufo-Addo affirmed that the policies are sound.

The confidence of the president lies in the fact that his government succeeded in reigniting the economy of Ghana when the country was under an International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme when he took over from the Mahama administration in 2017.

“When I came into office we were under an IMF programme and we had to renegotiate with the IMF. All of our famous interventions were made by the government- free senior high school, planting for food and jobs, all those initiatives- were done at the time of an IMF programme. They were launched in this period and have become very successful programmes of our government.”

He recalled that Ghana exited the IMF programme in a “very solid state” within a short time and thus, his confidence that the country will do the same this time around.

He also expressed confidence in his ministers in his quest to heal the ailing economy.

“The people with whom I worked to produce that result are substantially the same people who are helping me now and I’m confident that between myself and them, we will be able to put Ghana back again in a good space.”
