Akufo-Addo Denies Seeking Safe Passage For Ofori-Atta

Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has denied reports that he is considering approaching President John Dramani Mahama to seek safe passage for former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.

In a statement, he emphasised that the publication is utterly ‘false’ and a ‘total fabrication by the supposed source.’

“The Office further states that Nana Akufo-Addo has neither contemplated such a consideration nor expressly or impliedly made any such request or representation to President John Dramani Mahama, his agent(s) or assign(s).”

Acknowledging his grave concern for his cousin, he noted that the concern does not extend to wanting to interfere with the rule of law.

“Hopefully, this sets the record straight on this matter. The Office also demands that the errant publications reproduce this rejoinder in accordance with the former President’s rights.”

Ofori Atta who is currently out of the country, and nine others are facing 78 counts of corruption and corruption-related offences over revenue assurance contracts between the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and the Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML).

His name and details were previously entered into the Interpol Red List but have since been removed following a challenge.
