Adwoa Sarfo Apologises To NPP For Her “Misconduct”

The Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya constituency, Sara Adwoa Sarfo has rendered an unqualified apology to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for her misconduct some time ago.

The daughter of the owner of the Kantanka Automobile company in a prerecorded video posted on her Facebook page portrayed her remorse and directed her apology to the leadership of the government, her party leadership and party members in her constituency.

She noted that her conduct which was widely criticized as disdain on her part, was born out of family issues she was confronting at the time.

“I want to apologise to my party the New Patriotic Party and the Party Executives. First of all, to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, his Vice, the Chief of Staff, Hon Akosuah Frema Opare, the Majority Leader {in Parliament}, the entire leadership of Parliament, my fellow MPs- the Majority Caucus. I use this opportunity to apologise to all of you for my misconduct some time ago.

“I didn’t do it intentionally and it wasn’t premeditated. A lot was happening in my life and that of my family. I apologise to you all. My regional executive- Greater Accra- headed by Chairman Bonsu. The Headquarters of the party, the General Secretary and the Chairman. Supporters, sympathisers from my constituency who loved me and believed in me, I apologise to you all,” she said in the Twi.

Adwoa Sarfo became the subject of contention from 2021 when she abandoned her Ministerial and Parliamentary roles for her family in the United States Of America or over a year.

Efforts to bring her back to numerically support her fellow MPs in pushing some of the government policies proved futile and compelled the majority caucus to initiate processes to oust her from Parliament and declare the Dome Kwabenya seat vacant. This however proved futile. Her party members at the time accused her of sabotaging government businesses in Parliament.

The straw that broke the camel’s back came when videos of her dancing on TikTok went viral and attracted backlash. She reacted by deleting her account.

The situation cost her her Ministerial position at the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection somewhere in August 2022 as President Akufo-Addo dismissed her and appointed her deputy then to the role.

She announced her return to Ghana on Monday, October 7, 2022, in a Facebook post.

The intention behind her apology is not readily understood but some party members ascribe it to her bid for reelection in upcoming Parliamentary Primaries.

One party member is convinced no amount of apology “can erase the pain and ordeal you put our party through when we needed you most.”

“It’s time to take the back seat. Why didn’t she apologize like 8 months back but now? Is it because she wants to contest again? If this party is a serious party which wants to truly break the 8, someone like you should not be allowed to even pick a form to contest again. There must be serious discipline in this party,” he wrote on Facebook.

Adwoa Sarfo’s post on Thursday is flooded with comments from some NPP supporters.

One said, “Begging for forgiveness because you’re seeking for reelection. We live to see.”

“The people of Dome Kwabenya should forgive but shouldn’t forget that she wanted to destroy the party and the government. She’s apologizing because there is an election coming. It’s time to let her rest,” said another.

“Forget it the damage has already caused,” another noted.

Others, however, called her brave for apologising.

“It takes a brave person to do this, kudos. The rest is in the hands of all stakeholders to make a decisive decision.”
