About ₵4.2 Billion-worth Indian Hemp Destroyed at Court Order

Indian hemp weighing 47,530kg and worth about ₵4.2 billion has been destroyed in the Volta Region following a court order.

The destruction was undertaken by the Volta Regional Police Command on Monday, November 17, 2025, at about 14:30 hours, it said in a statement.

Packed in six hundred sacks and tendered in as evidence, they were intercepted and seized by the Police Command in 2022 following the arrest of three persons.

“The Ho Circuit Court presided over by His Honour Felix Datsumor gave the order for the destruction of the narcotic exhibits after years of trial.”

The destruction exercise was supervised by Mr Moses Dzanfi, Circuit Court Registrar, Mr Joseph Opusomah, State Attorney, Mr Daniel John Pekyi of the Narcotics Control Commission, and Mr Emmanuel Mensah Gbekor of the Environmental Protection Authority.

“The exhibits were completely burnt under strict Police, National security and media presence at about 22:30 hours at the Klefe dumping site in Ho.”

The Police Command, in its statement, appreciated the support of stakeholders in the fight against the drug menace.
