A/R: Six Perish After Galamsey Pit Collapse

Six persons have reportedly died after an illegal mining pit collapsed on them on Wednesday evening at Atwima Mponua in the Ashanti Region.

The pit is said to have collapsed on dozens of people who were actively engaged in the illegal activity.

It is said to have collapsed on October 1, 2025, at about 4:30 p.m.

So far, ten of them have been found, with six dead, four in critical condition and two missing.

Meanwhile, the bodies are being preserved at the Nyinahini Mortuary for identification and further directives.

Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) is leading efforts to find the remaining victims.

It comes exactly a week after three persons died and four others got trapped in a galamsey pit collapse at Twifo Mampong.
