A/R: Police Go After Fufuoso and Adugyama Illegal Miners

The Police in the Ashanti Region are hunting for persons behind alleged renewed illegal mining activities at Fufuoso and Adugyama.

It comes after a team of police officers was dispatched to the areas following a report by journalist Erastus Asare Donkor.

According to the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, a team was dispatched to the location on the same day to verify the situation and take the necessary action.

It met degraded land and makeshift structures but found no individuals or equipment at the site.

“All structures were immediately pulled down, and the area has since been placed under continuous monitoring to prevent any possible return of the illegal miners.”

He further reported that there have been no attempts to reoccupy the site in the past week.

Notwithstanding, Dr Amoakohene noted that the Police Service is actively investigating the matter to identify the individuals responsible for the activity.

Meanwhile, he encouraged the public to share any credible leads directly with the NIAMOS office or with the Regional Coordinating Council rather than taking to social media.

He asserted that early publication of such alerts sometimes prompts illegal operators to flee before enforcement teams arrive, so direct reporting strengthens the response.

He further reaffirmed his outfit’s commitment to protecting the environment, enforcing the law, and supporting communities affected by illegal mining.
