A/R: Amoakohene Sanctions Full Probe Into Stabbing of KNUST Student at NPP Tour

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, has sanctioned a full-scale investigation into the disturbances that rocked the New Patriotic Party’s Thank You tour in the Ashanti Region on Tuesday night.

The mayhem was characterized by shootings that led to the stabbing of a student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) at the event held at the Bantama Pentecost Church.

The Minister in a Facebook post described the development as disturbing.

“Disturbing reports and images from the NPP ‘Thank You Tour’ have come to my attention. I have directed a full investigation into the incident that left a KNUST student critically injured.”

He further encouraged the largest opposition party to put in place appropriate security measures to forestall recurrence.

“We urge the NPP leadership to ensure the tour is conducted peacefully to safeguard the security of our beloved region.”

Background
Reports say that the victim was among the Jama Group from Unity Hall hired by the camp of former Assin Central Member of Parliament, Kennedy Agyapong, to help make the event lively.

CNR citing an eyewitness account reported that a wealthy friend of Kennedy Agyapong who attended the event dashed money to the Jama group, but a group of well-built, gun-wielding men—believed to be NPP members—appeared from nowhere and took the money.

In an ensuing confrontation, the victim got stabbed.

He was rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital where he is receiving medical attention.
