A Man Took Me There; Young Woman Rescued from Overhead Discloses

A young woman rescued on Thursday by the Ghana National Fire Service from between the piers and deck of the flyover in front of the Odawna market at the Kwame Nkrumah interchange alleges that a man took her up there.

After regaining consciousness following her successful rescue from the flyover, she told the personnel of the GNFS during interrogation that she arrived in Accra in search of greener pastures from the Northern part of the country on Wednesday, July 24 and was taken up there by a man he met on arrival.

According to a report by the Public Relations Officer of the GNFS, Alex King Nartey, she alleged that the man left her there that same night for work.

There are suspicions that the man had sexual intercourse with her; however, the GNFS said that cannot be confirmed.

“When we took her she had lost consciousness but regained consciousness after some time. She said a man put her there last night upon interrogation. She is a migrant. The man left her there for work and she stayed there waiting for him and didn’t know how she was going to get down. She said she thought of jumping down.”

Background
The woman who is speculated to be either below 20 years or in her early twenties was found up there by traders and passers-by who communicated this to the Service.

Personnel arrived just in time and went to her rescue.

“We were informed that a woman was stuck up there and since we have a station there, our men went to her rescue. Some suggested that she is a witch but our job is to rescue. Our men tried using a ladder which was quiet short and so couldn’t reach her and we didn’t want her to get frightened to the extent of risking her life so the officers climbed the overhead and carried her off on her blind side,” the PRO recounted on Onua News.

The victim was assessed by personnel of the Ambulance Service and was later transported to the Ridge Hospital after which she was discharged, he said.

He said upon a search of the area, empty take-away packs, pen drives and phone cases were retrieved pointing to the fact that it is an often visited spot.

“We suspect the person behind this often uses it to perpetuate his malicious venture so we hope the police take this up and monitor the place.”
