New Juaben South Education Directorate Seeks Closure Of Schools For Final Funeral Rites Of Late Paramount Chief, Queen-mother
The New Juaben South Education Directorate has written to the Eastern Regional Director of the Ghana Education Service (GES) seeking permission to close schools on Monday, May 16, 2022, during the climax of the final funeral rites of the late paramount chief and queen-mother.
The funeral rites of the late Prof. Emeritus Daasebre Oti Boateng and Nana Yaa Daani II will begin on May 14 and climax on May 16, 2022.
The Directorate cited inquisitiveness and curiosity on the part of its pupils for the request for closure of schools in the municipal noting that there will be a display of acts like “gun shootings”.
“The New Juabeng Traditional Council has indicated that the climax of the funeral period is Monday, 16th May 2022. The final funeral rites come with all its features viz the presence of top government officials and traditional rulers including His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, executioners, gun-shootings, ban on noise-making, closing of shops, etc.
“Subsequent to the above, the Education Directorate writes, knowing well the curiosity and inquisitiveness of its pupils, to seek your permission to suspend all school sessions on the said day, Monday the 16th of May, 2022 for both public and Private Basic schools in the Municipal to avert any unforeseen circumstances and to offer its maximum respect to the Traditional Council during the said period.
It added that schools will resume educational activities the following day, May 17.
