Your Leadership Is Inspiring; AU Commission Chairperson Eulogises President Akufo-Addo
The African Union Commission (AUC) Chairperson, Moussa Faki, has eulogised the president of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo, for his exceptional leadership traits and contributions to the AU and the ECOWAS.
Moussa Faki showered praises at Nana Akufo-Addo, at the opening ceremony of the African Union (AU) Reflection Forum on Unconstitutional Changes of Government in Africa, through his spokesperson, the Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security at the AU, Bankole Adeoye, on March 15.
“Your Pan-African leadership which you provided resulted in the landmark in the AU declaration known as “Ezulwini Consensus” on the reform of the United Nations Security Council.
“Also noteworthy is your decisive initiative taken to ratify all AU instruments, the only country on our continent that has done so”, he said.
He also pointed out that President Akufo-Addo’s exceptional leadership as the ECOWAS Chairman comes to light in the wake of the series of military takeovers rocking the West African bloc and throwing it into tatters.
“Today your leadership is inspiring because of the centrepiece of the challenge of the unconstitutional change of government in West Africa. You have robustly responded to the challenges given your position.”
Four member states; Sudan, Mali, Republic of Guinea, and Burkina Faso, were absent from the forum following their suspension from the Union due to unconstitutional changes in governments, a development H. E. Prof Mafa Sejanamane, Permanent Rep of the Kingdom of Lesotho to the AU and Chair of AU Peace and Security Council for March 2022 decried.
He stated that “If we don’t diagnose the problem, we won’t be able to treat it”.
The commander of Ghana’s Armed Forces, Nana Akufo-Addo, also speaking at the ceremony indicated that “statements condemning coups alone, without corresponding action will achieve little or nothing as witnessed in recent times. This problem requires collective agreements, effective deterrent, bold actions and most importantly, adequate preventative programmes”.
At the forum, Faki entreated participants to have “an eye on the aspirations already decided by leaders under Agenda 2063. Aspirations 3; trying to build an Africa of good governance, respect for human rights justice, Aspiration 4: a peaceful and secure Africa, and Aspiration 6: an Africa whose development is people-driven, relying on the potential of the People, particularly the youth and women. Indeed this is why we are here today”.
The objective of the forum in the regional capital of Ghana was to reflect on the phenomenal unconstitutional Changes of government in Africa to offer enduring solutions to the problem.
