FDA: Police Arrest Peddlers Of “Nkoyo And Nnompe Nnompe Tablets”

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) says it has, together with the police, arrested some peddlers of “Nkoyo and Nnompe Nnompe tablets”, herbal preparations that “treat pain and inflammatory diseases”.

According to the FDA, the products haven’t been registered.

“These unregistered drugs contain active ingredients classified as prescription-only medicines in unknown quantities. These products may also contain other unknown substances”, the FDA said.

It added that continuous use of such products without proper prescription and guidance can lead to serious health effects such as headaches, stomach pains, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach pain, dizziness, depression, high blood pressure, indigestion, restlessness, black or tarry stool and insomnia and many others.

It cautioned, “The public is therefore warned to desist from buying and using these products since the FDA cannot seize large quantities of the products and safely dispose of them.”

It announced that efforts are underway to effect the arrest of all those involved in the act with the help of the Police Service.

“The Authority is by this statement warning the public to be cautious of the operations of peddlers of drugs in the open market and other unapproved means and rather deal with only licensed pharmacies for all their prescription and over-the-counter medicines to avoid incidences of substandard and falsified medicines”, a statement from the FDA said.
