Police: Robbery Attack Foiled At A Robbery-Prone Area
The police have reportedly thwarted a robbery attack at a “robbery prone” area in Obuasi killing a suspect in the process.
The attempted robbery is said to have taken place on the feeder road between Nyamebekyere – Kokotenten in Obuasi.
The Police got intelligence that some persons were planning to rob passengers on that particular stretch and followed up by deploying a team of police officers in a private Hyundai Grace vehicle.
A five-member armed gang- the suspected robbers- opened fire on the Hyundai Grace vehicle ignorant of the fact that it had police officers on board. The officers reportedly returned fire killing one, identified as Yaw Obolo, 35.
The rest of the gang succeeded at fleeing from the site.
“Residents of the nearby community assisted the Police while they combed the area in search of the rest of the robbers but they were not successful”, a statement from the police said.
Among retrieved items included a locally manufactured single-barreled gun, eight BB live cartridges, and one Itel mobile phone.
Meanwhile, the body of the deceased was deposited at the Obuasi Government Hospital Morgue for autopsy and preservation, the police said.
