Nana Akufo-Addo Promises ¢200,000 To Appiatse Explosion Victims
The president of the Republic of Ghana through the vice president, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has announced an amount of 200,000 cedis will be given out to victims in the Appiatse explosion.
The information was relayed after the veep, together with Interior Minister, Ambrose Dery, Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, the Inspector General of Police, George Akufo Dampare, Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, and other members of the National Emergency Response team visited the scene of the disaster and paid visits to the injured at various hospitals this morning.
The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) says 500 houses were affected by the explosion.
The vice president, addressing the press after inspecting the scene, said the government was collaborating with the State Housing Corporation to develop new structures for the displaced.
Following the explosion which has claimed at least 17 lives with about 59 injured, churches and schools have been used to temporarily shelter the displaced.
Condoling with the bereaved families, the government said it will absorb the medical charges of the injured.
Relief items like mosquito nets, mosquito coil, soap, cooking oil, rice, and others were given to the displaced.
According to reports, a vehicle carrying mining explosives collided with a motorcycle near the town of Bogoso causing the explosion.
